Lebanon is anticipating the meeting between French envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian and Nizar al-Aloula, advisor at the Royal Court, in Riyadh, with the attendance of Saudi Ambassador Walid Bukhari, to discuss the presidential file.
Meanwhile, judicial developments continue to unfold. In a new update regarding former Governor of the Central Bank of Lebanon, Riad Salameh, the Public Prosecutor Judge Ali Ibrahim has charged Salameh with crimes of "embezzlement, theft of public funds, forgery, and illicit enrichment."
Separately, the Maronite bishops renewed their call for the Parliament to adhere to the constitution and expedite the election of a head of state, free from political disputes and unproductive interpretations. The bishops condemned the manipulation of population statistics in Lebanon aimed at altering the system and governance partnership.
Regionally, with all the negative indicators surrounding the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that "Israel is committed to defeating Hamas and uprooting 'evil' from its roots, and this goal will not be achieved if it departs from the Philadelphi Route."
He emphasized that the Israeli military control over Gaza’s land and sea borders prevents smuggling operations. He asserted, "We must remain in the Philadelphi Route to prevent weapon smuggling. We will not leave the Philadelphi Route and the Rafah crossing."
In a new warning to the Israeli government, Hamas confirmed that the fate of the living Israeli prisoners depends on halting the war on Gaza. They stated, "Every day Netanyahu remains in power could mean a new coffin."
On another note, during his first visit to Ankara since assuming the presidency, at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi confirmed the establishment of a new phase in relations with Turkey and the enhancement of mutual economic ties. Sisi stated at the end of the discussions, "The challenges in the region require coordination with Turkey."
For his part, Erdoğan indicated that Turkey seeks to strengthen its relations with Egypt in the natural gas and nuclear energy sectors.
Internationally, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer defended his government’s decision to suspend some arms export licenses to Israel, emphasizing that the UK will continue to support Israel's right to self-defense while adhering to international law.
Additionally, the Swiss government has approved a bill to ban Hamas and designate it as a "terrorist organization."
In Russia, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned the United States against joking about the "red lines" set by Russia, in response to questions about the potential delivery of long-range American missiles to Ukraine.
Separately, the United States remains committed to advancing ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and prisoner exchanges. U.S. officials have confirmed that Washington will not withdraw from the Gaza talks, as it seeks to end the conflict.
Economically, OPEC+ is discussing postponing the planned increase in production next month amid a drop in oil prices to their lowest levels in nine months.
