Syria Intercepts Missile Strike
Syrian air defenses intercepted an Israeli missile strike over Damascus on Tuesday, local media reported, adding that large explosions were heard earlier. A Syrian military source said the strikes targeted parts of central and southern areas, leaving only material damage.
US' Message to Iran
The US on Tuesday told Iran it must let the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) continue monitoring its activities, as per an agreement extended until June 24, otherwise put further talks on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal at risk. Indirect US-Iran talks on reviving the deal are due to resume in Vienna this week.
UNSC: Guterres for Second Term
The United Nations Security Council has backed UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a second term, recommending that General Assembly appoint him for another five years as of January 2022. In a statement, Guterres expressed he is grateful to the members of the council for their trust.
Britain will urge the European Union to find solutions to ease post-Brexit trade with Northern Ireland. Britain’s ties with the EU have tensed since exiting from the bloc last year. Britain said any further legal action by the EU would not “make life any easier” for the people in the province.
