US Authorizes J&J Shot
The United States authorized Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday. Following the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, the Johson & Johnson shot is the third approved in the US. The vaccine can be stored in normal refrigerator temperatures and is the only one that requires a single shot. Shipments within the US are expected to begin next week.
Mexico: 11 Killed by Gunmen
Several unidentified gunmen riding in a truck opened fire with rifles in Mexico’s western state of Jalisco on Saturday, killing 11 people and causing injuries to a woman and a minor. In December, the former Jalisco Governor was shot dead in the beach town of Puerto Vallarta.
Nigerian Schoolboys Freed
Gunmen in Nigeria released 27 schoolboys who were abducted from a secondary school last week in the Kagara district of the north-central state of Niger. A boy was killed during the raid. Security forces continue searching for more than 300 schoolgirls kidnapped in a nearby state on Friday.
HK Democrats Charged
In the largest single crackdown on the democratic opposition under China-imposed national security law, forty-seven Hong Kong democrats and activists were charged with conspiracy to commit subversion on Sunday. Police said in a statement, those charged will appear in court tomorrow morning.
