Plane Crash Investigation
After questions arose whether Iran's downing of the Ukrainian passenger flight last year was intentional, Agnes Callamard, an independent UN investigator, said she hadn't found any concrete evidence that the targeting of the plane was planned. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had said they shot down the plane mistaking it for a missile.
Venezuela to Expel EU Ambassador
In response to the new European Union sanctions against 19 Venezuelan officials, Venezuela's National Assembly called for the government to suspend EU's ambassador to Caracas. EU foreign ministers agreed to sanction Venezuelan officials for "undermining democracy" and human rights abuses.
Efforts to End Myanmar Crisis
Myanmar’s new foreign minister visited Thailand on Wednesday for talks with Indonesian and Thai officials, as they increased efforts to end the Myanmar crisis. The neighbors' efforts have raised concerns among Myanmar activists who fear dealing with the junta would grant legitimacy to it and its aim to scrap the November election.
Spain: COVID Relief Package
Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez announced an additional 11 billion euro relief package. The amount is targeted to small and medium-sized enterprises and the self-employed to help them deal with the economic crisis imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
