Myanmar Military Sanctioned

Myanmar’s military leaders came under foreign pressure, as tightened sanctions were imposed by Washington and Brussels on Tuesday. Within the country, the military has failed to stop the biggest rallies against their rule. So far, three protesters have been killed in demonstrations.

 

Iran Ends Snap Inspections

Iran’s envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency said it had ended implementation of the additional protocol at midnight on Monday, an agreement that allowed the IAEA to carry out snap nuclear inspections. A state-run daily newspaper cautioned on Tuesday that radical actions in the nuclear dispute with the West may lead to the country’s isolation.

 

US: Half a Million COVID Deaths

Just over a year since COVID-19 claimed its first known victim in the US, the country's death-toll of the pandemic surpassed 500,000 on Monday. In a proclamation honoring the dead, US President Joe Biden ordered the nation's flag to be flown at half-staff on public buildings and grounds until sunset on Friday.

 

UK's "One-Way Road to Freedom”

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed England's path out of lockdown on Monday. The phased plan will go through four stages, with at least five weeks in between each stage. Johnson said caution was necessary to ensure the roadmap is "irreversible".
