US to Revoke Houthi Designation
In response to Yemen's humanitarian crisis, the United States plans to revoke the 'terrorist' designation for the country's Houthi group. The move reverses the order issued by former US President Donald Trump right before leaving office. According to some diplomats, the designation stopped humanitarian assistance to Yemen.
Myanmar Internet Shutdown
As protests across Myanmar continue, military rulers have shut down the country's internet. Earlier on, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook were banned to stop the assembling of protests. Demonstrators are calling for the release of elected leader Suu Kyi and several others detained by the army.
ICC Jurisdiction in Palestine
The International Criminal Court has announced that it has jurisdiction in Palestine. ICC chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda will investigate alleged war crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country will protect its citizens and soldiers in every way from legal persecution.
Libya New Interim Government
Libyan forum led by the United Nations has voted on an interim government, aiming to end division in Libya. Mohammed al-Menfi will be serving as presidency council head and Abdulhamid Dbeibeh as prime minister. UN acting Libya envoy Stephanie Williams said, “On behalf of the United Nations I am pleased to witness this historic moment.”
